Summer Arts Intensives: May 31 - June 5, 2015

Welcome to the College of the Arts’ Summer Arts Intensive! These one-week, non-residential programs are perfect for young artists who are serious about honing their craft and learning more about what it is like to pursue college-level work in the arts. We invite you to explore our offerings, and come and experience the arts at KSU!

Acting Intensive

Intensive Dates: May 31 - June 5, 2015

The KSU Summer Acting Intensive offers a one-week, non-residential program for students who are dedicated to the art of acting. Students in this intensive will collaborate with like-minded peers and be taught by the accomplished professional theatre artists of KSU’s award-winning performance faculty. Master classes in acting, movement, voice & speech and stage combat will culminate in a final performance. This program is limited to 20 participants, so please register early!

The cost of the intensive is only $295 and includes lunch in the nationally recognized KSU Dining Commons Monday-Friday.

Art Intensive

 

Intensive Dates: May 31 - June 5, 2015

The KSU Summer Art Intensive is open to rising 9th-12th grade students interested in the visual arts. Students will explore a variety of media such as ceramics, mixed media, drawing, software and digital applications, technology, bookmaking, and printmaking with KSU faculty and students. The intensive is designed to help students further develop their skills and creativity, and strengthen their portfolios. A pin-up show at the end of the week will highlight student work. The School of Art & Design also offers incentive scholarships every year to outstanding students who attend the intensive.

The cost of the intensive is only $295 and includes lunch in the nationally recognized KSU Dining Commons Monday-Friday.

Dance Intensive

The KSU Summer Dance Intensive offers a one-week, non-residential program for high school students who want the opportunity to experience technical and artistic growth in an environment that fosters creativity and learning. Students will study with dance professors at KSU, and experience a variety of dance technique and theoretical courses that are an integral part of dance education at this university. Students will take classes in modern, ballet, African and jazz technique, as well as experience theory classes in dance history and kinesiology. Faculty will set choreographic repertory that will be performed by the students in a concert at the end of the intensive. The Department of Dance at KSU also offers incentive scholarships every year to outstanding students who attend the intensive.

 

The cost of the intensive is only $295 and includes lunch each day. 

Music Intensive 

 

Intensive Dates: May 31 - June 5, 2015

The KSU Summer Music Intensive are intended for rising 9th-12th grade students who want the opportunity to experience musical and artistic growth in an environment that fosters creativity and learning. Throughout the week, students will participate in a variety of individual and ensemble sessions with our exceptional faculty and current School of Music students. The week culminates in a performance that showcases the student’s work. The School of Music at KSU also offers incentive scholarships every year to outstanding students who attend the intensive. The cost of the intensive is only $295 and includes lunch in the nationally recognized KSU Dining Commons Monday-Friday.

 

Musical Theatre Intensive

 

Intensive Dates: May 31 - June 5, 2015

The KSU Summer Musical Theatre Intensive is intended for high school students who are serious about honing the necessary skills to perform in musical theatre on the collegiate level. Acting, dance and vocal skills workshops will be led by KSU faculty and local professionals. The weeklong sessions will culminate in a musical theatre presentation performed by the workshop participants. This program is limited to 25 participants, so please register early!

The cost of the intensive is only $295 and includes lunch in the nationally recognized KSU Dining Commons Monday-Friday.



Summer Technology Camp: iD Tech

 

At iD Tech, we offer hands-on, high-energy summer computer programs for kids and teens. Co-ed options include iD Tech Camps for ages 7-17, iD Tech Academies for teens ages 13-18, and iD Tech Mini for ages 6-9. We also offer Alexa Café, an all-girls program for ages 10-15. Programs are held at over 100 prestigious campuses nationwide. Unlock your internalDrive and gain a competitive advantage for college and beyond!

Our GA summer camps immerse students in a STEM learning experience unlike any other. Choose from courses in game design, web design, coding, programming in Java™ and C++, Minecraft modding, filmmaking, robotics, photography, and more. With 8 students maximum per instructor, we customize our curriculum around you. You’ll build real-world skills, make new friends, and discover how your talents and passions can lead to a future career. Depending on location and program, students will eat in the university dining hall and explore campus. Overnight campers sleep right in the college dorms!

$40 for each student and $30 for each parent or guest. The cost includes materials, parking, lunch and breakfast. The link to pay labeled "Marketplace" will be emailed to the student upon registration. Please check your email!
 
DESCRIPTION
Preview Georgia Tech is a daylong open house, offering participants the opportunity to meet with Georgia Tech faculty, staff, and students. The event takes place in the heart of the Georgia Tech campus, giving students the opportunity to tour the campus and sample student life.
At Preview Georgia Tech, you will have the chance to experience:

• An admission presentation
• Student panel discussions
• Academic information fair
• Scholarship and Financial Aid presentations
• Co-curricular opportunities
• A campus tour

Advanced reservations are required for this event. If this event does not appear on-line in the reservation system, then it has filled to capacity. For each session, we often have canceled spaces. If spaces become available, then they will be shown online through the link below. We are unable to overload our sessions or to maintain a waitlist at this time. Please make sure to check the email you provide. ALL communication is sent through email.

Spotlight Performance Casting Call

How well do you know your JA Fellows company?  Are you excited to talk about it at the upcoming JA Fellows Annual Competition in March?   Well – now you have an opportunity to help future JA Fellows prepare for their business launch as well!  

Spotlight Performance will be creating new content to help all our future students with officer elections, making sales pitches, preparing for Shark Tank, and succeeding in the Business Competition.  You can be a part of this!  Showcase your acting skills and possibly be  selected to record new video content in April and May this year.   

All you have to do is log into Spotlight Performance (jafellows.clients.spotlightperformance.com), record an answer to one of the playlist questions and submit that answer for review!  Just once!  And, for every response you record and submit for review, you will be entered into a drawing for a $10 iTunes gift card.

Scholarship - Frederick Douglass High School Students

Lester W. Butts Scholarship Fund

 

Purpose

An annual scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from Frederick Douglass High School, an Atlanta Public School, in honor of the late Lester W. Butts, the first principal of the school. The recipient must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need and community involvement.

Eligibility Criteria

• High school senior graduating from Douglass High School
• Acceptance or enrollment at an accredited college, university or technical school
• Demonstrated financial need
• History of community service

Award Amount

$5,000

Scholarships Available

One to two annually

The deadline for Lester W. Butts Scholarship will be announced in January, 2015.

Scholarship - Pursuing degrees in Mathematics, Engineering or one of the Physical Sciences

Tech High School Alumni Assoc./W.O. Cheney Merit

 

Purpose

For students pursuing degrees in mathematics, engineering or one of the physical sciences

Eligibility Criteria:

• A legal citizen of the U.S.A.
• A legal resident of the state of Georgia for at least three years prior to application.
• Demonstrate high moral qualities.
• Have earned a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher, OR be in the upper 15% of his/her graduating class.
• SAT (math and reading) of at least 1300.
• Have been accepted to a four-year accredited college or university to pursue an undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Engineering or one of the Physical Sciences.
• Be enrolled as a full-time student.
• Demonstrate a commitment to community service.
• Preference will be given to:
  • A student attending a college or university in the state of Georgia.
  • A student who, in his/her essay, claims a connection with Tech High School, if such a claim can be verified.

Award Amount

$5,000 annually for up to four years
