JA Fellows Senior Scholarship Application

The JA Fellows Senior Scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors who best exemplify the passion and spirit of the JA Fellows program.
Scholarships will be awarded based on a combination of the completed application, feedback from volunteers and staff, and demonstrated financial need.  Financial need is not a necessary component of the scholarship but could be a contributing factor.

JA Fellows Outstanding Young Business Person Award

Criteria
Ø The Outstanding Young Business Person is a student who embraces opportunity and entrepreneurship, has a clear desire to be a better person, and continues to grow personally and professionally. We are looking for students who demonstrate growth over their JA Fellows experience. The OYBP will be able to acknowledge challenges they faced in their company and how they overcame those challenges. This person will display professionalism, great communication skills, and have an interest in pursuing a career in business.

Ø There are two stages to this award:

o Part 1 – Essay
o Part 2 – In-person Interview

OYBP Part 1 - Essay
Ø The first part of the individual competition requires all interested students to e-mail a 250-500 word response to the statement below by 12:00pm on February 15th to jafellowsdocs@gmail.com.
 Ø Responses are to be typed in a word document and included as an attachment.
Ø The students with the top responses will move onto the second phase consisting of an in-person interview. 

Essay Question

As a JA Fellow, you have experienced firsthand the successes and challenges of running a company. What were some of those of challenges? What role does leadership play in your company experience and what are the qualities that you feel are most important for an effective leader to possess? How did you provide leadership in the company and what lessons have you learned that can help you reach your leadership potential? How did the program influence you in your future decisions?

OYBP Part 2: Interview
Ø Interviews will take place at the annual competition in front of a panel of judges.
Ø Interviews will be a maximum of 10 minutes in length and may cover any aspect of your JA Fellows experience. Should any questions be asked about current events or trends (from a business perspective), all students will be given the same prior notice about the potential topics or questions.

Grady Young Foundation Scholarships

The Grady Young Foundation is once again offering scholarships to outstanding seniors in the Hall County area.
The Grady Young Book Scholarship and the Grady Young Memorial Scholarship is awarded on the basis of potential academic achievement, financial need and demonstrated individual motivation to one student in each of the High Schools located in the Gainesville/Hall County Schools System. The Grady Young Foundation, Inc. awards Book Scholarships to high school seniors who are planning to attend a two or four year college, technical institution or university on a full time basis upon graduation from high school. To be eligible, the student must reside in and attend a school in Gainesville/Hall County, Georgia. Selection will be based upon the scholarship committee’s overall rating of the information submitted.

Holland and knight Dream Scholarship

The Holland & Knight Dream Scholarship Essay Contest is a writing contest for high school seniors enrolled in public schools in Atlanta, Decatur, Fulton County and DeKalb County public school systems.

The contest is designed to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and to encourage students and leaders of today and tomorrow to reflect on Dr. King's legacy, their dreams and their strategies for achieving those dreams.

Julian & Jan Hester Memorial Scholarship

The Community Bankers Association of Georgia (CBA) is pleased to present applications for the 2013 Julian & Jan Hester Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is an opportunity for students to learn more about the importance of community banking and what it represents in the community.

The Julian & Jan Hester Memorial Scholarship is open to Georgia high school seniors who will be entering a Georgia college, university or technical college (two-year program or more) in the fall semester of 2013. It is not a requirement for students to concentrate on or major in financial studies during their college career. Students can either be members of your community or your banking institution.

The scholarship is named after long-time CBA Chief Executive Officer, the late Julian Hester and his late daughter, Jan Hester. Jan was a senior at the University of Georgia when she died in an auto accident on April 15, 1990. In addition to supporting community banking, this scholarship is an opportunity to pass on the positive qualities both Julian and Jan Hester exemplified to further the development of tomorrow’s generations.
As in past years, CBA will award one $1,000 scholarship to four (4) deserving students.

2013 COAG Scholarship

This scholarship offers two $1000.00 scholarships
Eligibility:

The COAG Scholarship is open to any Georgia high school senior (or a GED equivalency dated December 31, 2012 to May 31, 2013) who is a United States citizen graduating by the spring of 2013 or any student currently enrolled in a school of accredited higher education located in Georgia is eligible to apply for a 2013 COAG Scholarship. You must be seeking a degree in a field related to government/law enforcement, political science, accounting/finance or business, pre-law
Criteria:
The criteria for the award include: presenting a letter of acceptance or letter of enrollment from a school of accredited higher education located within Georgia (four year college, junior college or technical college); presenting a copy of their application to provide verification of degree field related to government/law enforcement, political science, accounting/finance or business, pre-law; submitting a 1,000 word essay; presenting a COAG scholarship application (may be downloaded from www.coag.info).

Summer Program Offered Through Turner and 21st Century Leaders

Leadership Unplugged- A weeklong media literacy focused leadership development program in which participants are exposed to various areas of the media business through interactive workshops, tours, roundtable sessions, team-building exercises, and an etiquette dinner. Participants learn the practice of “pitching” a story. Click here for more information.

JA Students Offered Scholarship Opportunity

High-school students with academic achievement, leadership skills, JA Fellows Company Program involvement and financial need are invited to apply for the Joe Francomano Scholarship.
Recipients may use the award to pay for education expenses at any accredited post-secondary educational institution for any field of study resulting in a baccalaureate degree. The Achievement Foundation established the scholarship to honor past JA visionary Joe Francomano’s 50 years of dedication and commitment to Junior Achievement. The foundation provides an annual award of $5,000 per year for up to four years. Find the 2013 scholarship application here.

2012-2013 SunTrust Off To College Scholarship Sweepstakes

 

For the eighth consecutive year SunTrust is pleased to offer the Off To College Scholarship Sweepstakes where students can win a $1,000 scholarship for education expenses at a 2 or 4 year public or private college/university located in the U.S.
If you are a high school senior planning to attend college or a current college student who will be continuing their undergraduate studies in the fall of 2013, you are eligible to enter our sweepstakes. Fifteen drawings will be held and one winner will be chosen every two weeks from October 26, 2012 through May 10, 2013.
  • Registration begins September 14th and first drawing will be held on October 26th
  • Free to enter and eligibility not based on GPA or financial need

    Dreams2 Scholarship Fund

    Purpose

    To provide scholarship opportunities for deserving students who want to pursue their education

    Eligibility Criteria:
    Minimum 2.0 GPA, maximum 3.0 GPA. (Anyone whose GPA is below 2.0 or above 3.0 is not eligible.)
    • Enrollment in or acceptance to an accredited two or four-year college, university or technical school to pursue an undergraduate degree
    • Demonstrated financial need
    • Full-time enrollment. Partial scholarships may be considered at the discretion of the Dreams2 Scholarship Committee for part-time students
    • Relatives of members of the Dreams2 Scholarship Committee are not eligible for this scholarship
    • Previous recipients are encouraged to reapply but must maintain the minimum GPA required by the school or a 2.0 GPA if the school does not have a stated minimum. Students are responsible for obtaining and submitting the current year's application and must reapply each year. Previous recipients are not guaranteed additional awards.

    Global Connections Art & Essay Contest:

    The Istanbul Center presents an exciting program for students. High school students in the Southeastern United States, which includes Georgia are invited to submit an original work of art and/or a written composition on the theme of "The Human Footprint on the Environment: Impacts & Solutions."     UGA YOUNG SCHOLARS PROGRAM

    The University of Georgia Young Scholars Program is a six week summer internship for high school students interested in science, agriculture, or engineering. Through the program, young scientists are given the opportunity to study within an agricultural field, such as entomology, food science, genetics, etc., and learn about applied science in agriculture. Students work side by side with a mentor, with whom they will interact on a daily basis to develop a research project and create a presentation. At the end of the program, each participant presents their research and findings.

    The goal of the Young Scholars Program is to encourage outstanding high school students to explore new areas and pursue a future career in science.

    As a high school student, you will have the opportunity to earn money for six weeks during the summer working with animals, plants, insects, machinery, scientific lab equipment, etc

    The program is opened to students that have finished their sophomore year, juniors and seniors and are 16 years by June 1.

    The program will be from June 3 to July 12, 2013.

    Application deadline is January 31, 2013– transcript and two letters of recommendation from science, math or agriculture teachers are required.

    G. Wayne Clough Georgia Tech Promise Scholarship

    Tech Promise is designed to fill a gap in the financial aid support system for low-income residents of Georgia. With scholarships, grants, and job opportunities, the program is designed to enable eligible students to attend Georgia Tech debt free. 

    Eligibility
    To be eligible, students must:
    • Be a legal resident of Georgia;
    • Be a full-time student seeking a first undergraduate degree;
    • Complete the financial aid application each year by the published deadline date;
    • Be eligible applicants for federal financial aid;
    • Be a dependent student whose parents:
      • Earn less than $33,300 in total annual income/benefits;
      • Are eligible to file an IRS form 1040A or 1040EZ for the most recent tax year;
    • Maintain a minimum GT GPA of 2.0 and satisfactory academic progress, as defined by the Institute.

    Apply now for scholarships to early college program at West Georgia


    The Advanced Academy of Georgia, located at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, is one of just a handful of U.S. colleges that allow students to earn their high-school diploma while attending school in a residential college setting. Students can enter the Academy for their junior and/or senior years of high school.

    The Academy is now taking applications for merit-based scholarships for students who will be in 11th or 12th grade in the 2013-14 school year. The Freshman Foundation Scholarship deadline is January 18, 2013; the deadline for the Presidential Scholarship is February 22, 2013.
    The regular admission deadline and need-based financial aid deadline for Fall 2013 are June 1, 2013.

    Better Business Bureau (BBB) Student of Integrity Scholarship

     
    BBB is proud to announce the call for entries for the 2013 Student of Integrity Scholarships. The scholarship program is funded by the Educational Foundation and each year, six students are offered $1,000 of scholarships each to high school seniors who will be graduating in 2013.

    Students must attend an accredited high school in one of the following counties: Banks, Barrow, Bartow, Carroll, Cherokee, Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, Dawson, Dekalb, Douglas, Elbert, Fayette, Forsyth, Franklin, Fulton, Gwinnett, Habersham, Hall, Haralson, Hart, Henry, Jackson, Lumpkin, Madison, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Paulding, Pickens, Pike, Polk, Rabun, Rockdale, Spalding, Stephens, Towns, Union, Walton and White Counties.

    Applications are being accepted and the deadline for entries will be January 31, 2013.

    Topic & Instructions

    Students must write an essay, not to exceed 500 words, based on the following topic: What signs do you see that trust is diminishing in the marketplace and what would you do to help rebuild trust between consumers and businesses?

    Students may write the essay in any form they wish. Judging will be done on how well students captured the essence of the topic and their creativity in responding.
