GA Tech- CEISMC Summer P.E.A.K.S. 2014

CEISMC Summer P.E.A.K.S. (Programs for Enrichment and Accelerated Knowledge in STEM) are hands-on, interactive learning experiences.  Summer P.E.A.K.S. give participants the chance to enhance learning during the summer in experiential activities on campus at Georgia Tech. P.E.A.K.S. cover many different Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) concepts. 


This year CEISMC is offering a variety of exciting and educational programs that focus on Science Technology, Engineer, and Mathematics. The program dates are currently being scheduled and will be available once the online application opens in mid-February. All one-week programs will be $395, this includes meals and a t-shirt. We do have financial aid available

Explore these topics at "Free the World," where you’ll see the connection between economic freedom and prosperity. You will learn about the many components that determine how free a country is as well as how the score of each component affects the lives of the people living there. With real world examples, you’ll see just what makes some countries freer than others.

 
Econ in Unexpected Places
July 21-24 | Berry College | Rome, GA

Are you not looking forward to your economics class? Do you picture Ferris Bueller’s teacher whenever someone mentions economics? Do you think that economics only exists in a textbook and not in the real world? Have you never been to a FEE seminar before?

Come to FEE’s “Econ in Unexpected Places” and learn how economics exists in a variety of places such as sports, movies, history, pop culture, and more! Economics is more than just graphs in a textbook or formulas on a computer; it’s a way of seeing the world differently than the average person. The way an average person looks at the world is like watching a 3D movie without the glasses. After a FEE seminar, you’ll have your glasses.
 

 
Intro to the Real World
July 27-30 | Calvin College | Grand Rapids, MI

Are you a high school student who is unsure about the life changes that happen after high school? Do you want to learn about paychecks, taxes, voting, and money? Have you never been to a FEE seminar before?

Join us for "Intro to the Real World” and prepare yourself for whatever comes your way after high school. At the seminar, you’ll not only gain practical advice but also learn the motivation behind political actions. You will leave the seminar feeling informed to make the important decisions headed your way in the future.
 

Youth Leadership Institute


What: A week-long business-focused leadership development program in which participants are exposed to various businesses through interactive workshops, corporate tours, roundtable sessions with business leaders, team-building exercises and an etiquette dinner.

Who: Current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors in Georgia high schools; 75 students accepted

When: June 1 – 6, 2014

Where: Emory University – Students reside for a week in college dorms, supervised by 21st Century Leaders summer staff
.

How: Submit online application and recommendation from current teacher, counselor or youth leader.  Applications open on December 13th!

Cost: $95 non-refundable registration fee for accepted students; all other costs for room, meals, and program materials are covered by corporate partners, board and individual donations.

$15,000 Scholarship Giveaway

It’s that time of year again! That’s right, we’re giving away $15,000 in scholarships to EIGHT lucky winners in 2014. At Georgia’s Own Credit Union, we believe in helping our members achieve their goals, and we are especially proud to help you, our young adult members, who are just starting out financially. That’s why Georgia’s Own is honored to award eight scholarships to students who epitomize the Credit Union’s “People Helping People” philosophy.

The top recipient will receive a $5,000 scholarship for the 2014-2015 academic year. We will also be awarding a $3,000 and $2,000 scholarship to second and third-place recipients, respectively. Additionally, we will award five deserving runner-ups $1,000 each. Georgia’s Own Credit Union scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate good financial habits, a commitment to their community and a commendable academic record.

    Guidelines for Scholarship Consideration:
    1. The applicant must be a Georgia’s Own Credit Union i[x]member, 25 years of age or younger
    2. The applicant must be enrolled or anticipate enrollment in 2014/2015, in an accredited institution.
    3. The applicant must write a 500-word essay, outlining goals, aspirations, college and career plans. The essay should also include ways in which the applicant manages his or her finances effectively.
    4. The applicant must be attending or have graduated from an accredited high school and provide transcripts for current and previous years.
    5. Written recommendations from two present or former instructors and/or employers, dated within the last three months, are required.
    6. An outline of community and/or extracurricular involvement, including dates of involvement, must be included with the essay.
    7. Applicants that meet all of the above requirements will be eligible for scholarship entry.
    8. Please submit your package only when it’s complete.
    (1st Place Recipient: $5,000 College Scholarship; 2nd Place Recipient: $3,000 College Scholarship; 3rd Place Recipient: $2,000 College Scholarship, Five (5) Runners-up: $1,000 each)

    Minority Access' National Diversity & Inclusion Internship Program (Fellows Alumni)

    The Minority Access National Internship Program is designed to allow talented undergraduate and graduate students experience the diversity and scope of career opportunities available in the federal government and other participating entities. The program provides students with the opportunity to merge academic theory with practical application in the workplace.

    Minority Access interns receive pre-employment training, expert counseling on career choices, financial management and professional development, and recognition for fulfilling the requirements of the program. The Minority Access National Internship Program staff is available at all times to lend assistance to the interns.

    Students are you ready to begin working toward a career in the field of your choice? Would you like to earn pay for receiving hands-on experience, travel to exciting places while earning pay and academic credit; and share experiences with students from other colleges and universities? Would you like an internship during your college career that has the possibility of an offer for full-time employment upon graduation?     JA Fellows Senior Scholarship Application

    The JA Fellows Senior Scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors who best exemplify the passion and spirit of the JA Fellows program.

    Scholarships will be awarded based on a combination of the completed application, feedback from volunteers and staff, and demonstrated financial need.  Financial need is not a necessary component of the scholarship but could be a contributing factor.

    Outstanding Young Business Person Award


    Criteria

    Ø  The Outstanding Young Business Person is a 9th-12th student who embraces opportunity and entrepreneurship, has a clear desire to be a better person, promotes innovative thinking and continues to grow personally and professionally.  We are looking for students who demonstrate growth over their JA Fellows experience. The OYBP will be able to acknowledge challenges they faced in their company and how they overcame those challenges.  This person will display professionalism, great communication skills, and have in interest in pursuing a career in business.

    Ø  There are two stages to this award:

    o   Part 1 – Essay

    o   Part 2 – In-person Interview

    OYBP Part 1 - Essay

    Ø   The first part of the individual competition requires all interested students to e-mail a 250-500 word response to the statement below by 12:00pm on Friday, February 14, 2014 to jafellowsdocs@gmail.com.

    Ø  Responses are to be typed in a word document and included as an attachment. 

    Ø  The students with the top responses will move onto the second phase consisting of an in-person interview.  Please, note that you have to be present the day of the competition for the interview. No Skype or phone interviews will be permitted.

     
    Essay Question

    As a JA Fellow, you have experienced firsthand the successes and challenges of running a company.  What were some of those challenges?  Describe how your strongest professional skills have enhanced through your experience in the Fellows program?  Give examples of your creativity –ability to see alternatives, come up with many, varied or original ideas, take diverse perspectives; or willingness to try new things.  Describe the process of trying to implement innovation into your company.  How has the program influenced your future decisions? 

    OYBP Part 2: Interview

    Ø  Interviews will take place at the annual competition in front of a panel of judges.  Student must be present the day of the competition (Skype or phone interviews are not permitted).

    Ø  Interviews will be a maximum of 10 minutes in length and may cover any aspect of your JA Fellows experience.  Should any questions be asked about current events or trends (from a business perspective), all students will be given the same prior notice about the potential topics or questions.

    DAR National Society Scholarships

    The NSDAR awards multiple scholarships to students showing dedication to the pursuit of degrees in diverse disciplines including history, law, nursing, and education.

    The DAR Scholarship Committee awards scholarships to qualified applicants regardless of race, religion, sex or national origin. All multi-year scholarships, typically renewable up to four years, must be for consecutive years of attendance at an accredited college or university in the United States. The only exception is the American Indian Scholarship that is available for students pursuing vocational training.
