Dunwoody Nature Center’s LITES program provides an opportunity for youth from rising 9th grade to rising 12th grade to engage in leadership training and transfer those skills to environmental stewardship.
Using a nationally recognized leadership curriculum, LITs will spend the week learning leadership awareness while emphasizing nature based problem solving. The goal of the camp is to teach young leaders how to use their leadership skills to address environmental problems thus encouraging a lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship.
During the week, LITs will learn about leadership, character, and teamwork as they build positive relationships with their fellow LITs. A focus on positive interaction and team building activities will provide a foundation for practice and skill development. LITs will also learn about important environmental issues and visitors from the local community will give them a real world view of the issues and challenges that exist. By the end of the week, the LITs will be able to define a particular problem or concern, identify available resources, and develop strategies and solutions.
A minimum commitment of one week as a Junior Counselor is required at a DNC Summer Camp session of your choice after the completion of the program. An application and a reference are required for consideration. Applications for the 2016 class will be due by April 20th and the class of 2016 will be selected and notified by April 24th.
