The Oratorical Contest presents
participants with an academic speaking challenge that teaches important
leadership qualities, the history of our nation's laws, the ability to think
and speak clearly, and an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, rights
and privileges of American citizenship.
How does the contest work?
Each contestant makes an 8 - 10 minute presentation and 3 - 5minute speeches on an drawn assigned topic (Amendment #5, #6, or #8 ) with 5 minutes of prep time.
Who's Eligible to participate?
U.S. high school students under 20
What does the winner receive?
1st Place - $250
2nd Place - $150
3rd Place - $100
First place winner is eligible to participate in successively higher level Legion contests. The national winner will receive an $18,000 college scholarship.
