Tips for success

The Shark Tank show has great business tips to offer:
http://www.bradaronson.com/shark-tank/

Prepare. I’ve seen entrepreneurs on the show who don’t know their financials or seem to freeze up in the middle of their pitch. When you’re going to a meeting or pitch, practice enough that you can talk about your business even in stressful circumstances and please know your financials. The most successful people are usually over prepared. This is something Barbara Corcoran mentions in her excellent book, Shark Tales: How I turned $1,000 into a Billion Dollar Business.

Listen. The Shark Tank investors offer great advice when they turn people down. If you’re told “no” don’t be so displeased that you can’t listen to the rationale. And, if they don’t tell you why, ask so you can leverage that advice moving forward. This is a chance for insight from experts.

10 Most Common Senior Year Mistakes

10 Most Common Senior Year Mistakes

Every high school senior encounters some of these problems. Find out how to avoid common mistakes for a more successful year.

Your senior year of high school is a busy time. Between taking tests like the SAT and ACT, worrying about your GPA and transcript, doing your college search, sending out your applications and waiting to find out about admissions at your colleges and universities, it’s understandable that you would be tempted to put all that school stuff aside and have fun with your friends.

But keep your eyes on the education prize. Balance is key: Take breaks to recharge and have fun, but don’t let senioritis overtake you and make your college options slip away.

When you feel less motivated to study, remind yourself that every good grade gets you closer to finding a college that offers a great program in the major you want.

Finding a balance between having fun, studying for your courses and planning for your next life step is a great way to start preparing for college, since you will be called upon to do this during your college years.

To help you stay focused, we’ve compiled 10 of the top mistakes students make during their senior year so you can make sure you don’t make them.

Follow the link to find out what you need to avoid doing in order to stay on top of your game: http://www.campusexplorer.com/college-advice-tips/BA56EA81/10-Most-Common-Senior-Year-Mistakes/

Middle School Programs

Basics 101 Class this weekend

We have had a number of last minute cancellations for this weekends class.  If your middle schooler has no plans, sign them up for our Basics 101 program for this Saturday and Sunday.

NEW PROGRAM - Nov 29 & Dec 6, 2014 (2 Saturdays)

Parents of middle schoolers, we have heard your requests for additional programs for your students and have developed a part two of the middle school BASICS 101.

We are calling this program Beyond the Basics 102MS.  We have scheduled our pilot program for two consecutive Saturdays starting the end of November.  Check your calender and sign up early!!

What will be covered?  Still teaching through games and activities, we will revisit those crucial topics discussed in the earlier program but add important elements that they should learn as they grown.  Students learn that saving is the beginning of asset building and that asset building is essential for long-term wealth. Students learn to look at purchases as “will this put money in my pocket or take money out?” Students must participate in the Basics 101 Program prior to attending the Beyond the Basics 102MS program. This is a great opportunity that will have a lasting impact on the lives of students and prepare them for their financial futures.

Additional Dates Added

High School BASICS 101

NOVEMBER 30 & DECEMBER 6, 2014  (SUNDAYS)
As you might have noticed, our programs have filled up quickly for the remainder of the 2014.  Our limited number of Basics and Beyond the Basics programs have frustrated many of you.  This is due to the limited number of school holidays giving students a long weekend.  However, we are piloting consecutive Saturday/Sunday programs.  This would mean your student would attend part one of the program on one weekend day and continue part two the same day one week later.  Some of you participated in our survey and were interested in the idea.  Now is your chance to take advantage.

Beyond the BasicsBeyond the Basics – 202

Ages 14-20

Students are required to participate in the prior program in order to have a good foundation of the concepts.  This two-day program will delve deeper into the importance of using credit wisely and how every action affects their ability to make future purchases, obtain insurance, and gain employment.  We will also cover diversity in investing and the pros and cons of entrepreneurship.  And so much more!
Beyond the Basics 202 10am-4pm
January 2 & 3, 2015 (High School)

Boston University Scholarships

Boston University

If you are a high achiever, Boston University wants to help you accomplish everything you possibly can as a BU student. One of the ways we do this is through a variety of scholarships. Last year, Boston University awarded nearly $12.5 million in merit-based scholarships to entering freshmen. Most awards are for academic achievement, while others go to talented athletes, performers and artists. The competition is keen: typically, recipients rank in the top 10% of their graduating class, but achievements outside the classroom in schools and communities can also make a difference.
BU has several kinds of academic scholarships. Some are available for specific areas of study. For some, you must be nominated by your high school. And for other scholarships, no additional steps are required for consideration. BU funded awards may cover full tuition or a specified dollar amount.
