Another Great College Fair - Don't miss it!!

The 2014 College Fair is being held 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 4 at the Georgia World Congress Center, Building C (located on Northside Drive) – Atlanta, GA.  Admissions and financial aid representatives from over 50 colleges and/or universities from around the Southeast are on hand to answer questions and provide important information on enrollment at their respective institutions.  This Fair offers the opportunity for institutions  to have exposure to more than 4,000 thousand high school juniors and seniors who are interested in attending college.  Students are encouraged to bring copies of any test scores they may have (ACT, SAT, etc.) 

Also, join The Scholarship Academy in Room C-201 to LEARN HOW TO GO TO COLLEGE WITHOUT GOING INTO DEBT! Our Navigating The Scholarship Maze session teaches students and parents how to build scholarship brands, identify tailored scholarship opportunities and craft competitive applications.  Led by a recipient of over $200,000 in scholarships, participants will learn how to create realistic college funding plans.

Spring 2015 Student Honors Business Program




The SEC is seeking bright, innovative, results-oriented individuals for its Spring 2015 Honors Program for undergraduate students  in the Washington, DC Home Office and our 11 Regional Offices.  We offer undergraduate students robust responsibilities and experiences that enhance their potential careers. Over the course of the ten-week program, students work with Commission staff on projects particular to the specific Division or Office to which they are assigned. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in seminars/workshops, roundtable discussions, a mentoring program, and tours that will provide detailed information and guidance on securities laws. This Friday, Sept. 26, JA alumnus Ryan Kelly from JA of Southwest Connecticut will appear on the season six premiere of Shark Tank. Ryan originally appeared on Shark Tank’s season four, and his company, Ry’s Ruffery, was funded by Shark Barbara Corcoran. A chance to inspire an elementary or middle school student



JA Fellows Students, Alumni & Volunteers we would like to share a wonderful opportunity offered at the Wade Walker Park Family YMCA.  This exclusive opportunity is made available to our program participants to service as Volunteer tutors to elementary(3:30-5:00pm) and/or middle school(4:30-5:30pm) students.  There is availability to volunteer during the school year Monday - Thursday.  Those interested in this opportunity should complete an application online or stop in.  Be sure to indicate at the top 'after school tutor'  Applications should be submitted to either Karen Posyner or Deb Beauford.  Wade Walker Park Family YMCA is located at 5605 Rockbridge Road Stone Mountain, Georgia 30088  Wade Walker Y Website

2014 TrepStart Day Atlanta

TrepStart Day focuses on giving high school students various perspectives on entrepreneurship while teaching key entrepreneurial concepts in a hands-on setting. During TrepStart Day Atlanta students will hear from a keynote speaker as they share their entrepreneurial journey and road to success. Additionally, students will attend break-out sessions that focus on various facets of entrepreneurship, a networking lunch and a panel discussion. Each break-out session is presented by a nationally-recognized teen entrepreneur (members of IY’s Teen Entrepreneur Network).

National Black Arts Festival - Game On!


 
 
On September 26 and 27, NBAF will be presenting a commissioned theater piece, entitled Game On! This piece, originally developed by New York-based Hi-ARTS, is a hip-hop theater piece created in collaboration with students and adult artists. When a young girl ends up inside a video game, she learns that virtual reality is no match for real life in this Atlanta premiere of a new hip-hop theater work created by middle school students and performed by adult artists, breakdancers, and graduates of NBAF's Brave New Voices Institute. It is written by Felice Belle and directed by Monica L. Williams.

An introductory two-day program that teaches students not only the fundamentals of managing money, but also introduces the basic principles of investing and preparing for the future.  The classroom, which accommodates up to 20 students, does not contain the usual classroom equipment.   Unlike a traditional teaching style, the enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructors use games and activities to keep the students engaged and interested.  This program focuses on exploring, developing, and reshaping young people’s attitudes about money and the importance it plays in their lives.

Ages 14-20

Students are required to participate in the prior program in order to have a good foundation of the concepts.  This two-day program will delve deeper into the importance of using credit wisely and how every action affects their ability to make future purchases, obtain insurance, and gain employment.  We will also cover diversity in investing and the pros and cons of entrepreneurship.  And so much more!

AES Engineering is pleased to be able to continue offering scholarships to motivated students to help in the furthering of their education.



Scholarship Criteria
Our belief is that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining who deserves to be helped. For that reason we are offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by evaluated the essays that are submitted.

Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. This award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post secondary educational facility.

You are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible.
 
How to Apply
Students must submit an essay of between 500 and 1000 words in answer to the following question:

When you look back on your life in 30 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful?  What relationships or accomplishments will be important on this journey?  

Amount of award: $500.00
Deadline for entry: October 6, 2014
